The first step towards clearing your mind is to brainstorm ideas in the Map view, this will create a mind map which you will build up as you go with ideas.

You don’t need to worry about structure and order at this stage, just start typing ideas into the map.

Type and Return

Type and Return helps you to build a mind map quickly by capturing what you type – no mouse, no dialogs.

  • Select a branch to become the parent (new branches are added below here, as children)
  • Start typing the name of your branch, then press return

Organise

Once you have brainstormed your ideas in the mind map, you can start making sense of them by dragging and dropping within the map to rearrange the branches.

Drag and Drop

  1. Select the branch you want to move
  2. Click and start dragging away from its current position
  3. Hover the mouse over its new location, using the drop indicator to refine its new position
  4. Release the mouse to complete the move

Affinity View

Getting a new perspective on your map information can be invaluable when it comes to identifying links and common themes in the information.

The affinity diagram is ideal for examining the relationships between ideas generated during the brainstorming phase, allowing you to group related information together.

You can change this by selecting Affinity View by clicking Settings on the left panel and selecting Layouts:

Determine

By using tags in your map, you are more likely to revisit your unstructured data and apply logic to make sense of the information captured during the brainstorming session.

Tag Views

Tag view allows you to swivel the axis of how data is presented, based on how it has been tagged. It aids understanding and communication of data and quickly focuses on areas needing close attention.

You can change this by selecting Affinity View by clicking Settings and selecting Layouts:

Filtering by Tag

Filters provide a way to search and highlight conditions in the map that must match certain criteria. Filters are used extensively around tags and task management.
